2012 was a big year for me, as it was the year I decided to cut spending down as much as un-humanly possible. To name a few, I cut my cable, sold my car (I’ve been carpooling and riding the bus to work ever since), and eventually decided to join the Dollar Shave Club. Joining the Dollar Shave Club was a no brainer… razors for $1, who could beat that? Especially since I was spending $7 on razors.
But then, I read an article about cutting out the middle man, and discovered that the Dollar Shave Club was just a middle man to a company called Dorco. I quickly went to Dorco’s website and realized I could purchase all my razor shaving requirements in bulk for way less than $1 a razor. With the help of two coupons, I purchased three years worth of shaving supplies for less that $100!
Fast forward three years later. While on the bus commuting back from work, I happily begin setting up my razor purchase for the next three years. While doing so, I started bragging to a co-worker who was commuting with me on this awesome deal, but I noticed he did not seemed so impressed, which was odd to me as he is always looking for ways to save money. Then he tells me, he buys 100 razors for $5 and a handle for $15 that lasts forever.
My mind was instantly blown. If what he was saying was true, I could buy THREE YEARS OF SHAVING SUPPLIES FOR $30, and for only $15 three years after that! He was reminding me of what I’ve seen older men in my family use years ago. He was talking about safety razors. Safety razors are eco-friendly as there is no plastic waste, and as you can see, very affordable. So, I began my search for razors and a handle.
In my search for a safety razor handle to have and hold for the rest of my life, I came across Solo Noir, a BLACK WOMAN (Andrea Polk) owned shaving company… and boy was I excited. Unfortunately, her company did not carry razors at the time of purchase, so I picked mine up at Amazon. Using a safety razor took about 4 days to get used to, as you need to use a lot less pressure as you would with a plastic razor. Now I can get a close shave, not have to constantly tap my razor in the sink to get the stuck hair follicles out, or feel bad about tossing plastic in the trash every week. This product is vegan, cruelty free, eco-friendly, minority owned, affordable, and works great on my skin!
